Using Wrong Prepositions
The function of a preposition is to indicate the relation of a noun to another noun or to a verb or adjective. That means, a preposition is always followed by a noun (or anything equivalent to a noun) and it may be preceded by a noun, verb or adjective. Mistakes are often made in English by using a wrong preposition after certain nouns, verbs or adjectives. People usually make prepositional mistakes when they are influenced by their mother tongues. Here are some words which often create problems to Bangladeshi users of English:
1. Absorbed (= very much interested)
Incorrect : The girl is absorbed at her work.
Correct: The girl is absorbed in her work.
Incorrect: I was absorbed with the book.
Correct: I was absorbed in the book.
